Quick It Girl (Horoscopes and the Dangers)

Quick it Girl asked if she could request a blog specifically on Horoscopes. MashAllah, this one's for you sis =). Also if anyone wants me to write on a certain topic InshAllah I’m always open for requests.

Now lets first take a look at the definition of horoscopes. It is a prediction of someone's future based on the relative positions of the planets. In western culture shirk is widespread and its starting to become as common and frequent as breathing! There are numerous books on astrology, newspaper columns, magazines and the list goes on. As Muslim we must be critical of such things and avoid anything that could lead us into Shirk (disbelief). Astrology is clearly forbidden in Islam and so is horoscopes and superstitious objects (lucky rabbit foot, believing black cats bring harm, unlucky number 13).

There are many different categories of Shirk and horoscopes would be under Shirk by Deification. Which simply means giving divine names or attributes to any of Allahs creation. When people look to horoscopes to reveal their future it’s clearly going against the principles of Tawheed. No one knows the future except Allah Subhana wa Tala.

“Say: None in the heavens or earth knows the unseen except Allah.” [Soorah an-Naml 27:65]

With horoscopes they usually use vague words that could be applied to everyone’s daily life. They play on words and people can interrupt them to mean a variety of things. For an example they usually say, “There is love in the air” or “Your feeling stressed but relief will come”. People tend to believe them and in reality they’re just generalizing such words to make it seem truthful. We might ask ourselves is it permissible to read them even if we don’t believe in them? The answer is No, because it is a form of ignorance and its haram! Also in the hadith below we see the severity of indulging in such acts.

The Salaah (daily prayer) of whoever approaches a fortune-teller and asks him about anything will not be accepted for forty days and nights.” [Reported by Hafsah and collected by Muslim (Sahih Muslim (English Trans.), vol. 4, p. 1211, no. 5440).]

Also in Ibn Taymiyyah's (R) great book, "Iqtida'us-Siratil-Mustaqeem". He states that by imitating the disbelievers is prohibited. If someone does it intentionally they may reach the level of Kufr. Now there’s a dispute amongst scholars whether or not the Shirk will be accountable if someone was unaware of doing those acts. Ibn Taymiyyah (R) took the stance that shirk in general is accountable. But Scholars such as Ibn Qayyum(R) said that only major shirk is accountable. Allahu Alim.

Now for any Muslim who reads their horoscopes whether for fun or for guidance should seek Allah's forgiveness and renew their Islam. To depend solely on Allah and to put their trust in Him in all their affairs. To turn away from anything that could be considered Shirk. "And to give up what appears to be doubtful for what is certain. Truth brings peace of mind and deception doubt."

How to Erase 2500 Sins in 5 minutes!

Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Amr (may Allaah be pleased with him) who said: “The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: ‘There are two qualities, no Muslim man acquires them but he will enter Paradise, and they are simple and easy. He should glorify Allaah (say Subhaan Allaah) ten times immediately after each prayer, and praise Him (say Al-hamdu Lillaah) ten times and magnify Him (say Allaahu akbar) ten times.’

I saw the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) counting this on his fingers. He said: ‘That makes one hundred and fifty on the tongue, and one thousand five hundred (hasanaat) in the scales.

[Translator’s note: each of three phrases repeated ten times makes thirty; multiplied by the number of daily prayers, which is five, makes one hundred and fifty. Each of these good deeds of the tongue will be rewarded with ten hasanaat which will be added to the total of good deeds to be weighed in the balance or scales on the Day of Judgement].

When you go to bed, glorify Him and praise Him and magnify Him one hundred times: that will be one hundred on the tongue and a thousand in the scales. Who among you does two thousand and five hundred sayi’aat (bad deeds) in one day?’ They said: ‘How could we not count (our sins)?’ He said: ‘The Shaytaan comes to any one of you whilst he is praying and says, Remember this, remember that, until he finishes his prayer and does not do (this dhikr), or he comes to him when he is lying down and makes him sleepy, until he falls asleep (without doing this dhikr).’” (Abu ‘Eesaa said: This is a hasan saheeh hadeeth. Sunan al-Tirmidhi, 3332).

**Points of Benefit**

--The Sahabaa were shocked that this reward was immense and yet so easy, however the challenge lies in implementation.

--Notice that it takes less than a minute to say the adkaar after the Prayers, and a few minutes to say them before you sleep.

--The Prophet [s] is pointing out that it is rare a person commits that many sins a day and theoretically if it happens, very few people do that everyday.

--Net Balance: Ensure everyday your Good deeds outweigh your Bad deeds.

---Teach your kids to say adkaar 10x each after the salah, both short attention spans and busy schedules can handle it.

I'm Extreme?

I have been called an "Extremist" three time's in the past 6months!
SubhnAllah. And worst of all they were all Muslims! It really shows the influence of the Kuffar and the way society as a whole has effected our mindset. So here are the reasons why I got called that...

1, I looked more deeply into the history of Valentines Day and found out its origins are from a disgusting pagan ritual =0. And I didn't want to practice such a holiday. Even though it completely s transformed over the centuries from what it used to be. I still find no point, it's just a way for hallmark and companies to take advantage of people's "love". && If you truly love someone show them that everyday not just take them out one day out of the year lol.

Their Response, "I think this is too extreme everyone needs to stop over thinking everything. If I'm going look at the history behind everything i enjoy its just going to depress me. no thank"

2, I was talking to my friend about wearing the Niqab and what they they about it. While differant schools of thought differ on whether its "Wajib" or optional. I think its optional and a act of worship to get closer to Allah. And If you feel like there's still fitna when you wear the Hijab and you want to protect your modesty than it's very encourage to wear it. [ I don't wear niqab but just my opinion about it (: maybe one day.]

Their Response, "That's too extreme, just wear a long shirt and loose fitting pants. Not the kind your drowning in but that looks good and fits properly. And In places like Yemen it's more of a cultural thing, women wear the niqab because everyone else does. As soon as they get on the airplane they take it off =0!!!

Stories of Patience :)

Patience is the key that unlocks the door to serenity, it relieves the grips of misery. When a problem befalls a person what is the usual response you hear? How do they react? There face darkens and they complain crying out to the heavens "Why me"? SubhanAllah, this shows us two things...

1.When a person is at their weakest moment they don't turn to anyone but Allah.

2.It shows this life is nothing but a test and Allah confirms this in Surah Baqarah (2: 155)

"Be sure we shall test you with something of fear and hunger, some loss in goods or lives or the fruits (of your toil), but give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere"

Things aren’t always going to be floating our way in perfect harmony. I was listening to this lecture by Sheikh Ahmed Jibril he said;“If were not in a problem were waiting for one this is the Sunnah of this life. But with the right kind of patience it brings brightness upon us.” It really made me think, usually when everything’s going smooth we don’t even think about Allah (Astaghfirullah). But when one problem occurs were at a lost we don’t know what to do. A misery in this life could be a paved road to the gates of Jennah (paradise). Your probably wondering how? First there’s nothing worse than losing a loved one but if you stay patient and steadfast there will be no reward but Paradise.

Abu Moosa al-Asharee (RA) narrates: Allah’s Messenger, (SAW), said, If the child of a servant (of Allah) dies, Allah questions the angels, Have you taken the life of my servants beloved one?
The angels reply, yes.
Allah then asks them, have you taken the fruit of his heart?
The angels reply, yes we took it.
Then Allah asks them, what did my servant say?
They reply, Alhamdulilah Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un (All Praises are due to God, We are to God, and we are to Him returning)
At that Allah will say, Build a home for my slave in Jannah and call it Bayt-ul-Hamd (The Home of Thankfulness).

Story of ‘Urwah Ibn Al Zubair

‘Urwah Ibn Al Zubair had an operation, and the doctor amputated his leg. One friend came to visit him. ‘Urwah thought that the friend came to pacify him for the loss of his leg. So ‘Urwah told the visitor: If you came to give me condolence for the loss of my leg, I already submitted to Allah with patience to reward me for its loss. The guest told him, I came to inform you that your son fell down in a stable, and the animals stepped over him, and he died one hour ago. ‘Urwah said: O Allah! You took one child, and left me many…You took one organ from my body, and left me many organs…O Allah! You tested me with my body, and you were kind to leave me with good health. You tested me with the loss of my son, but you were kind in leaving me the rest of my children.

How beautiful are these stories of Sabr, wallahi it melts my heart. How many of us could have said that if were in such a calamity? Things happen for us to open up our eyes and realize how precious time is. These events that we may dislike takes place to remind us and to come back to Allah at full speed. Alhamdulilah we may not like a thing but its good for us. Patience is something we need to work on every single day. It doesn’t come easy for most of us, especially me. Just like you work out to build your muscles you should work out to build your patience. It’s the same concept if you don’t do anything and sit at home everyday do you think you can compete in a body-building contest? No, of course you wouldn’t (you could join but you wouldn't place). People prepare for years before entering such a contest. Even when they enter they're so nervous and feel as If they could have worked harder. And after its all over they don’t quit, they keep training for the next event. This example isn’t sufficient because the test of patience in this Dunya is more important than any competition. To show the importance of this topic Sabr (patience) its mentioned in the Quran over 90 times! It is a crucial attribute that all Muslims must have and work on.

The Prophet (Salallahu 'akayhi wa salam) said: “How remarkable is the case of the believer! There is good for him in everything, but this is not the case for anyone except for the believer. When the believer receives any good, he is thankful to Allah, and gets a reward. And when some misfortune befalls him, he endures it patiently, for which he is (also) rewarded".

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Apostle said, “Allah said, ‘I will declare war against him who shows hostility to a pious worshipper of Mine. And the most beloved things with which My slave comes nearer to Me, is what I have enjoined upon him; (obligatory deeds) and My slave keeps on coming closer to Me through performing Nawafil (voluntary deeds) till I love him, so I become his sense of hearing with which he hears, and his sense of sight with which he sees, and his hand with which he grips, and his leg with which he walks; and if he asks Me, I will give him, and if he asks My protection (Refuge), I will protect him; ( i.e. give him My Refuge) and I do not hesitate to do anything as I hesitate to take the soul of the believer, for he hates death, and I hate to disappoint him."

How to Boost your Imaan??

In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Having problems with your Faith? One day you feel like your unstoppable and the next you feel like crawling under a rock?

Well fear not I have some solutions InshAllah. Firstly we should constantly try to renew our Imaan. Our hearts are always changing so we shouldn’t expect it to be at the highest level all the time. As humans we blame others before we blame ourselves. So we tend to think why isn’t Allah putting it into our hearts? When this happens it’s a clear sign Shaytans trying to whisper in your ears (Auzza bilAllah). Don’t be of those who hand an invitation to Shaytan. Right when this happens we should ask ourselves what are we doing wrong that we don’t feel that Imaan like we usually do? What can we do to build it back again and inshAllah higher than what it was before?

Know that one of the tricks of Shaytan is procrastination by which he induces the people to delay their repentance. That’s why the scholars warned against saying, "I will tomorrow”. What makes you, Slave of Allah think you'll be alive tomorrow? Don’t leave it to ignorance and say "inshAllah ill feel like doing some good deeds to raise my Imaan later". Or inshAllah "i'll ask for forgiveness later when I feel like it". SubhanaAllah, we act as if were doing Allah a favor by worshiping Him. Indeed Allah is not in need of His Creation, His Creation is in need of him.

So as soon as you heart feels like something’s missing, as if something isn’t right. Things that became second nature are now becoming difficult. Your slacking on things you normally ran too.
First thing you should do is...

* Go perform wuduu and sincerely pray
* Worship in secret
* Read Quran a page or two
* Call out to Allah in supplication and ask for guidance
* Give charity or go listen to a lecture
*Try fasting Mondays and Thursdays


- Anything that re boosts your imaan. It doesn’t have to be anything big, but inshAllah the reward for doing those things will be big as mountains on the Day of Judgment. And as soon as you do those things, Alhamidullah we feel that inspiration again. The heart warming feeling that when Imaan is at its highest as if no one can touch us. Just as you work for everything else in life. You have to work to build your Imaan. There shouldn't be any exceptions or excuses. With everyday comes a new struggle a new trial another day to conquer yourself. InshAllah we all take advantage of the time and energy we have right now.

Fear Death??

Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim

The only thing we are guaranteed in this life is death. Yet finding meaning in your life and the topic of death is still taboo now days. It’s rarely thought about let alone spoken. Our society tells us to fear death, fear the unknown. Why should we be afraid of something that’s bound to happen? That’s a form of ignorance and denial at it’s best. We can dodge it and avoid talking about it but will it get us anywhere? It’s as if were running from our shadow and thinking we can outsmart it. Run faster, we won’t look behind us we're too afraid. So let’s keep sprinting, any direction works. But one day we’re going to be faced with the evident truth. Death is our shadow and its marked upon each and every person.

Either we can turn around now or let it take us at surprise. Whatever you choose it doesn't prevent it from happening. We are not capable of such miraculous things as stopping time and living forever on Earth.

So I propose the question as … why do we act as if we will? As if we have all the time in the world not caring about the consequence of our actions. Fulfilling our days with use-less talk and our nights dreaming about fantasies. Nothing with an ounce of substance nothing with a spec of truth. Dwelling on past mistakes and anticipating days ahead. A time we can never get back and a time we may never see. I feel as if were trapped in a reality that only co-exists with the realities in our head. We’re pre-occupied with what we “think” satisfies our needs. In all our pride and glory we become slaves to our own desires and we don’t even know it. Does Allah not know us better than our own selves?

So why do we turn away and become disobedient to our Lord? God gave us the gift of life and we rejoice. And than God gave us the gift of death and we fear it? Finding a greater purpose awakens our soul. It set’s us free from the chains and shackles of this life. It brings us hope at our darkest hour. It’s softens our hearts and brightens our path to Paradise. It comforts us beyond any words could ever describe. The true question isn’t why we fear death. Rather why do we fear coming back to our Lord the Creator of the heavens of earth?
